Lesson Nine:
Over the years, many times, people have crossed my path and taught me valuable lessons, almost as if that were their purpose. They would float in, stay long enough to deliver their message, and then drift away again.
Sometimes, I got the message…I wonder now, how many times messengers have been sent, that I didn’t.
When I was a young nurse, I was all dressed in white and driving home from work one day when I got a flat tire.
Frustrated, I got out of the car and stared at that tire as if it would magically repair itself…I smile now.
Then the strangest thing happened. A small beat up little car pulled in behind me. A very rugged looking couple got out (they were in flannel shirts that had tears in them and they were dirty) and this couple without ever speaking a word, changed my tire for me.After they changed the tire, the man held out his shirt, looked at my hands and offered it to me…I understood that he was offering for me to wipe my hands on it. I shook my head and said, ‘no’ and thank you so very much for changing my tire.
The couple turned without speaking again and got into their car and left...
After they were gone, I realized that I hadn’t offered to pay them anything so I jumped into my car and tried to find them…it was a straight road without any turn-offs near so it should have been easy to do, but, I never did find them…they had disappeared.
I feel, now, that they were there to help me learn a lesson. I believe that the lesson they taught me was that even when things look bleak and frustrating, to hold on to faith and everything will work out as it should.
We may not always like the way things work out, but in the end most everything has a purpose or reason.
Recently, I went through a period of time of uncertainty. I have to admit that even I was beginning to worry and my sister was on the verge of a break down. But, I remembered the flat tire. And I told her, not to worry, that everything would be alright…and it was.
It always is. I didn’t have a way of knowing if things would work out the way I wanted them to, but I had faith that one way or another things would work out, and they did.
Life, is never easy. Much like a game, we are given tools to help us overcome challenges and then along the path, hints appear to help us push along until we reach the end. It’s up to us to use the tools and to pay attention to the hints that appear.
May your eyes be open while you walk the path of your life, and may you never miss any hints.
Lesson Learned:
Always treat every situation as an opportunity for messages to be passed, or growth to occur.
